EMPOWERING FAMILIES LIFTS OUR COMMUNITY

YWCA York has been a leading champion for social change and a valuable community resource since 1891. We are not new to this work, we are true to this work! Over 20,000 people are directly impacted and lifted up through the dedication and efforts of our incredible staff.

With your help, we have begun a series of capital projects that will update systems, enhance safety, and beautify spaces for our children, clients, members, family and the public. We continue to seek funds to transform our indoor play space into a vibrant learning lab for our kiddos!

The WonderZone

Dear Friend of YWCA York,

Our work to strengthen our community and support local families continue. YWCA’s national footprint advocates that the way we can break the cycle of poverty for future generations is to provide our community with a safe environment where our youth can develop and flourish in all aspects.

We are proud to be a strong community option for affordable and quality child care, where we maintain the highest state standards for education and development milestones. We are proud to be leading a champion for social change and a valuable community resource for our families.

Our purpose is to provide a nurturing and safe environment where children can grow and develop while their parents work or attend school. At YWCA York, we encourage positive, healthy development by facilitating child-guided learning experiences. Our services include developmentally-appropriate learning and play activities, such as reading stories, dramatic play, art projects, and science lessons. Physical activity and gross motor skill development are facilitated through outdoor and/or gym play.

Moving forward, our goal is to continue to provide a safe, fun and educational environment for our youth by converting an unused floorspace to our newly imagined WonderZone. This new area will be housed on the top floor of our 320 E Market Street space and be utilized to continue our programming on inclement weather days or for additional space needed to conduct programs. The concept will allow for our youth to have a stronger focus on STEAM programming by allowing wonderful community partners to collaborate with our YWCA York on content and activities. Our youth will experience yoga and mindfulness activities, gymnastics, soccer, dance, robotics and other special learning activities. By transforming the unused space, we can provide uninterrupted opportunities to keep learning always on the forefront of their days regardless of the weather.

Our future is bright at the YWCA York WonderZone. Children will benefit from the increased physical and social emotional development which has the potential to lead to lifelong healthy habits. We know that instances of negative behavior will decrease with more active and free play. We invite you to be a part of our investment in the youth of our community. We hope to count on your support with a gift to help us to transform our unused space into our new zone of creativity, learning and wonder.

ACCESS York, our domestic violence shelter, is receiving a top to bottom renovation! This confidential location has served our community well for over 40 years and was in need of some serious updates. So far, we have added a bedroom and replaced all flooring and fixtures throughout the family bedroom floor. An ADA-compliant bedroom/bathroom were added for greater accessibility.

On the mail level we eliminated a back staircase and opened up the dining room to the kitchen which we gutted and renovated to better serve our clients. It’s gorgeous!

Next up is creating a group room for gatherings and a redesign of our entry way and staff offices. THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO DONATED TO MAKE THIS POSSIBLE.

New front doors, restored leaded glass and a repaired granite threshold have all happened at YWCA York! Plus, all new windows, trim, gutters and downspouts. Our Georgian beauty is looking great. We also replaced the gutters around the building which restored the look of the building following a theft of our copper gutters.

The next project is a redesign of the front plaza and stairs to make them more attractive and functional.

Legal Center

Our new legal center is opening to the public in early 2022. We’ve transformed a carriage house on Reinecke Place behind our main building into an accessible location where clients receive legal support and representation in the areas of support, custody, divorce and other civil law is a key to establishing independence and self-sufficiency.

Thank you to our tax credit partners: M&T Bank, Northwest Bank, PeoplesBank, and Traditions Bank!
