York, PA – (August 18, 2022) YWCA York announces the postponement of its 2022 Walk A Mile In Her Shoes© event in order to move towards a more inclusive event.
“For more than a decade this important event to our community has reminded us of the impact of gender-based violence in its many forms. We are taking a step back this year, and really taking a look at the opportunity to educate our diverse community about the causes and the impact of sexual assault, domestic violence and gender-based violence and how we can best address it,” said YWCA York CEO C. Kim Bracey.
YWCA York has hosted Walk A Mile In Her Shoes© to show support for survivors and victims of sexualized violence as well as raise money to support the organization’s Victim Services. In order to be more inclusive, the YW will be expanding the event to Walk A Mile In Their Shoes to represent that anyone, no matter their gender, can be a victim of gender-based violence.
“We are so grateful to the community for their support year after year. This event has become a rallying cry bringing community attention to the violence that so many live with behind closed doors. We owe it to the community and to the survivors we serve to bring this event back with messaging that supports and includes all survivors and we are looking forward to walking with you again, this time in THEIR shoes,” said Heather Seton, YWCA York Chief Services Officer.
The YW looks forward to seeing everyone next year for this rebranded event. YWCA York will be joining the national YW initiative for a Week Without Violence from October 18-23, 2022.
