Join us April 17-24!
This year, YWCA York’s Racial Justice Committee encourages Race Against Racism participants to have Courageous Conversations with one or more people as you walk or run. First, determine what level of preparedness to talk about race you and your conversation partner are. Utilize the resources for each topic to prepare for your conversation. Please honor each other, respect some of these topics’ difficulties, and commit to supporting growth instead of judgment. We hope you find value in these resources and encourage you to stay engaged in our anti-racism work. Thank you for your commitment. Click here to view the conversation starters.
T-Shirt Pick-Up Information:
For participants who pre-ordered a t-shirt, pick-up begins on Wednesday, April 14 at YWCA York (320 East Market Street, York). Click here for pick-up times and more information. T-shirt sales are now closed.
Tell us why you participate in Race Against Racism by filling out a Why I Run or Why I Walk poster! Then, share how you support our mission of peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all by posting a photo with your poster, tagging YWCA York, and using the hashtag #YorkRAR. Click here to download your poster.
YWCA York staff and the Racial Justice Committee developed #YorkRAR Spotify playlists for participants to listen to while running or walking! We are excited to share 3 playlists: Oldies with great tunes to keep you feeling great, Women’s Empowerment with uplifting song choices, and Energy with upbeat running or walking music. First, you will need to download the free Spotify app from the app store, search for YWCA York in the Spotify, tap follow, and grab your headphones!
The #YorkRAR planning committee created optional race route options for participants! You are welcome to complete the race in your favorite park or neighborhood but we’ve created some fun options too. The Race Against Racism routes are Hollow Creek Greenway Trail, the UPMC Wellness Path, York City Rail Trail, and the Rail Trail in New Freedom. The document lists the location, path type, maps, and more! Don’t forget to share a photo of you and your family or team completing the run or walk using #YorkRAR! Click here to view the routes. Be on the lookout for #YorkRAR signs!
About Race Against Racism:
We believe our mission must go on! Runners and walkers will participate in the VIRTUAL Race Against Racism by running or walking a distance of 5K or 3.1 miles between April 17 and April 24. This can be done wherever you are – on a treadmill, on a Rail Trail path, around a track, or in your neighborhood!
Participants will share how they support our mission of PEACE, JUSTICE, FREEDOM, AND DIGNITY FOR ALL by posting a photo on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter, tagging YWCA York, and using the hashtag #YORKRAR.
