Our Work in the Community

YWCA York has an active Racial Justice Committee (RJC). The committee meets every other month and is made up of many York City and County organizations, churches, businesses, higher education establishments and other entities serving diverse populations. The RJC guides the racial justice work of YWCA York.

Committee and Events. Our Racial Justice work is broken down into sections and our working subcommittees meet on alternating months. Subcommittees include: Community Engagement, Education and Training, and Advocacy.

For more information about the upcoming events, view our Racial Justice Calendar of Events here. JOIN US on the last Saturday in April to RACE AGAINST RACISMand create a better York for ALL. This popular event funds our racial justice work for the entire year.

Advocacy. The RJC’s Advocacy subcommittee has a goal to provide ongoing training on becoming an advocate. We are proud to offer ongoing sessions on advocacy. To register or for more information, please contact Jean Treuthart at 717-845-2631 ext 127.

Film Series. The YWCA York’s RJC is committed to providing community education and conversations around racial and social justice issues. We hold regular film viewings, free to the community, followed by an expert panel and open community discussion as part of our work.
