Community Action & Awareness
When victims of domestic violence and sexual assault reach out for help from different systems, they often encounter different or even conflicting responses depending on whom they talk to. These varied responses can cause confusion, frustration, and even barriers to finding safety and justice.
Building a coordinated community response to domestic violence and sexual assault is an effective means of ensuring that different systems are unified in their responses to victims, and that people working in various systems are aware of the different services available in the community and are therefore able to refer victims to other agencies so that victim can access the help they need.
York County has been exemplary in building and amintainting a coordinated community response to domestic violence and sexual assault through the York County Task Force on Domestic Violence and the York County Alliance Against Sexual Violence. Likewise, the more recently formed York County Human Trafficking Task Force was established to coordinate and collaborate on the issues of human trafficking.
